DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & BELONGING
Kane Repertory Theatre (KRT) strives to “explore values in America,” “evoke empathy,” “strengthen the community,” and more. We recognize that a commitment to diversity, equity, and belonging are critical to achieving these goals.
Diversity, equity, and belonging are more than just policies and practice to KRT; our ability to embrace, understand, and operate in a multifaceted world is integral to who we are as an organization and how we see our future.
Our dedication to an equitable environment for our teams, production members, subscribers, and audiences begins by building an inclusivity-minded organization that is diverse in people, ideas, and talent.
We will foster and promote an environment of empowerment and unity while encouraging our team and production members to bring their unique and innovative perspectives to every engagement, because that is how we create the kind of art we aspire to produce: visceral, emotionally complex, thought-provoking, collaborative, and sustainable.
In that spirit, this statement of diversity, equity, and belonging is a commitment to evolution. That evolution begins with setting clear goals for our organization and holding ourselves accountable to publish updates throughout our process. Our initial goals are:
-
Examining current approaches to casting to ensure identity-conscious practices are at the forefront.
-
Adding diversity, equity, and belonging efforts as a standing item at all monthly board meetings.
-
Dedicating yearly resources for ongoing anti-racism training for KRT’s internal team.
-
Commitment to diversifying the voices that are highlighted in each production season.
-
Modifying rehearsal expectations and procedures to prioritize a healthy human/artist balance. We will hold no more than five (5) rehearsals per week and eliminate the need for 10 out of 12 rehearsals during tech weeks.
KRT welcomes all, and we will do all we can to make that a reality.
Thank you for supporting us as we engage in this journey.
